Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, demons, and dark forces increasing in strength within the city.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of heroes who will separate from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the character, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The antagonist then settled his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each adventurer has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could assist the group reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This means them little choice but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.

Future Episodes

From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to form the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can anticipate learning which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
